SEE WITHOUT EYES
"The number 44 is a symbolic number with a meaning related to the esoteric superstition of the curse associated with number 4 in the country of Japan. Four in Japanese is pronounced as "shi", which sounds just like the word "death".

For this reason the Japanese, the Chinese and Koreans alike tend to consider the number 4 as the supreme synonym of bad luck.

You won't find rooms with number 4 in Japanese hotels, even the whole fourth floor is named differently in all the buildings", — FACE.

On September 4, we will release a zine "See without eyes" that contains 44 pages of FACE's photography. In anticipation of the release, we asked artist to highlight 4 stories from the zine's pages.

FACE: Even at a young age I never had a good relationship with photography, I didn't like being photographed too much except on special occasions, even photographs with relatives were not appreciated.

I have never loved taking photographs because I have a photographic memory for the memories and images that I see are very developed for this thank you my mother loved playing MEMORY with me when I was a child (a game to train visual memory).
I have an exceptional image vision, in my books I remember the images where they are positioned in a page... When I search for an image on the net I can scroll very quickly having an eye on what I have to save.

During my travels and my life experiences in the international underground environment I could have taken pictures in truly unique and extreme situations .In this journey called life I had the pleasure of knowing and meeting people and personalities linked to my musical, artistic and skate world tastes who have disclosed their precious knowledge to me.
Growing up and gaining experience I began to appreciate photography as an art and as an immediate means of communication.

The photographic shots that I value are those in black and white, especially those of Japanese artists who have a really strong and heavy black that completes the backgrounds of the photo in contrast with the white or sepia.

Nowadays the photographers that I appreciate the most are Daido Moriyama, Tatsuo Suzuki, Guy Bourdin, H.N. Suze Randall.
2016 Taxi driver dead tired. Hongo, Bunkyō, Tokyo 113-0033, Giappone
This shot was made out of the Bunkyo subway near one of the many police stations (Koban) there were some cars of the area taxi drivers on a break.
Some were having lunch, others smoking a cigarette and he was dying of sleep.
2022 The patient spider's cobweb tunnel. Varzo 28868 Italia
Last year in the summer, more precisely in July, I was a guest of a dear friend in Varzo in the mountains near Italian-speaking Switzerland.

I usually never move from Milan in the summer months of August and July.

During that pleasant stay I made several excursions alone in the mountains and every day it was a spectacular experience to see the imposing nature with its trees, rivers and animals.

This shot was taken on the edge of a path where there were several holes with the unusual shape of a cobweb tube, this is its architect.
2016 The Black Virgin.(ASAP Rocky Vlone/Slam Jam Pop Store) Via Pasquale Paoli, 3, 20143 Milano Italia
In 2016 I was contacted by Slam Jam to collaborate with ASAP Rocky for his brand Vlone and the pop up store they created in Milan.

I took care of the creation of two unique marble statues 1.80 meters high and weighing 300 kg, one of which was covered with 100 kg of sealing wax in the same orange color as the Vlone logo.

This is the black one that I adorned with an ancient and rusty barbed wire as a halo, the detail of the blood in the eyes and a reference to the tears of blood of the miracles of the Madonna.
2016 The VVhite Virgin ( Commissioned artwork for Luca Benini in the Slam Jam store in Milan.) Via Giovanni Lanza, 1, 20121 Milano Italia
Luca Benini the owner of Slam Jam and a good old friend we have known each other since I was a kid and I bought in Milan from WAG the first street wear store in Italy the products that he imported such as Stussy, FUCT, Carharrt and all the Californian underground brands.

This work of art was commissioned by him after seeing the excellent result of the statues for Vlone.

I produced a black one for the Ferrara headquarters and a white one that I created in Basel at the headquarters of Carharrt and owned by Edwin Faeh.
The "See without eyes" zine will be available on the GRADE website starting September 4.
